In 1856 a group of settlers in the Honey Lake Valley named the surrounding area “Territory of Nataqua.” At that time, the area took in a part of what is now the state of Nevada. Nataqua is an Indian word for “woman.”

Th seal of the Parlor denotes an Indian woman with feathers in her headband and beads around her neck.
