the Parlor was named for the original name of the town of Oroville, Or-oh-vil (Spanish pronunciation: Oh-roh-veel). this name is a combination of “oro” (Spanish), meaning gold and “ville” (French), meaning town. The city was so called because it was in the heart of a gold country. The seal represents a dredger. There were many dredgers in the Feather River during the early days when Oroville was named Ophir, meaning “land of gold.”
