MEMBERSHIP This year, Grand President Dorothy Ambrose has challenged the Order to become Master Gardeners and "dig up" new members. The member who sponsors the most new members will receive the "Golden Shovel" award and a $500 travel certificate.
NDGW HOME PLEDGE YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! The NDGW Home Committee is reviving the "Loyalty Pledge" from 1929-32. At Grand Parlor in 1929 Grand President Louise C. Heilbron, challenged all Native Daughters to donate $5.00 to retire the mortgage on our "new" Home at 555 Baker Street, San Francisco. Native Daughters responded as Native Daughters do, and amazingly, the mortgage was burned 3 years later. This achievement is even more remarkable when we realize that it was the middle of the Depression and that $5.00 in 1929 is equivalent to $60.00 in 2006! Our Native Daughter Home has been supported through the years with the Home assessment, special events, and Parlor, District and member donations. But now our Home is more than 75 years old and in constant need of repair and improvements which these sources of income no longer cover - and YOU can help, as did your sisters from long ago. We are asking each NDGW member, as an individual, to voluntarily pledge $5.00 per year for 5 years. The Home is not only a multi-million dollar asset, we need to maintain it. Is $5.00 a year for 5 years worth it? We hope you will agree with your sisters from 1929 that it is well worth the expense. Our order has been built upon its caring and dedicated members, and here is your chance to help write a new page in our history book demonstrating that these qualities are still alive and well in the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Please make checks payable to "NDGW Home" and mail to: Home Pledge, 555 Baker Street, San Francisco, CA 94117. Submit your pledge now and be part of the "Loyalty Pledge II" of the new millennium.
